I've been sick the past few days with a cough and a sore throat, and my step-dad came home two nights ago complaining of the same symptoms I have.  So then next morning, when I heard a kind of 'thunk-thunk' from the basement, I thought it was him tinkering around down there and paid it little attention for the duration of my breakfast.
